A recent class assignment for Bible class was to choose a “bullet,” write its meaning, and tell why it is important. “Bullets” are Bible verses that we use as headings in our class. We have a different one each week. Example: I, Peggy, can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
The following statements are from our current HCA students:
I John 4:4 “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”
This verse means that God has more power than Satan, and He has defeated Satan. This is important to me because it is a reminder that because Jesus lives in me, the devil has no power over me.
Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life-of whom shall I be afraid?”
James 4:7 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
Both of these verses show that God is omnipotent. If you put your faith in Him, He will protect you from all evil. The devil cannot hurt you unless you allow him to get to you. With God, you have no one to be fearful of. Anytime I’m scared or worried about something, I can go to God, and that way I know for sure that with everything I do, God will be there with me. I don’t have to second guess whether or not I’m safe; I can just know.
II Timothy 1:7 “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.”
To me this verse means that I should not be afraid of anything because I do not have a fearful spirit. With God, I am in control, and I have nothing to fear. To me, it is important because I know that with God I have courage, power, love, and self-control. I have these characteristics in my spirit, and I will carry them with me wherever I go.
Psalm 17:8 “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings”
I am very important to God, and I am protected under His wings. He will protect me like His most prized possession.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
This verse means that God knows what He is doing. The future He has for us will not hurt us, but it will help us. He is the painter of our life. We see what happens now, but He sees the whole painting and lets it flow together. This is important to me because when I moved to Texas, it made no sense. Sometimes it still doesn’t, but I am only seeing part of the painting. God has me here for a certain reason, and it won’t hurt me unless I let it. This verse helped me realize that His plans are to prosper me and give me a hope. It still is hard to accept, but this makes it a lot easier.
Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
God made me just the way He wanted, so to Him I am wonderful. If I am insulted by other people, they are basically insulting God. Anytime I feel bad about myself, I can look at this verse and know God made me perfect to Him.
Ephesians 6:16 “In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”
This verse means that God has more power than anyone or anything, He is a better listener than any person alive, and His love is stronger than any place, person, or thing that Satan brings against me.
Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation-so why should I be afraid: The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?”
I think this verse means that since God gave us salvation, mercy, and grace, we should not worry or be afraid. God is our lamp, so we do not have to be confused or alone. This verse is important to me because it reminds me of what Jesus did for me. It reminds me to not worry and to not be afraid. It helps me remember God’s powerful love and grace for mankind. He is my protector and my strong tower. He is my friend, and I am never alone. He delivers me from all evil.
